E-Verify is a tool that both employer and employee can use to check eligibility to legally work in the United States - either U.S. citizens, or foreign citizens who have the necessary authorization.
myE-Verify is a free Web-based service that has something of value for everyone who works or is looking for a job in the United States. E-Verify is for employers; myE-Verify is for workers and job seekers.
The employer enters the employee's information from Form I-9 into E-Verify and submits the information to create a case. E-Verify compares the information to records available to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, including: U.S. passport and visa information, Immigration and naturalization records.
The initial result will be either a confirmation or a tentative no confirmation of employment eligibility. If a tentative no confirmation, the employer must follow certain procedures in notifying the employee, providing a referral letter so the employee can contest the result with the SSA or DHS, and obtaining the final result which will be either a confirmation or a final no confirmation.
"E-Verify helps protect your employees, business associates as well as your business. Many BAA agreements will require you to E-Verify your employees."
